Feed safety

Norwegian feed surveillance includes general hygienic parameters and various mycotoxins, and may also include Salmonella.

Aim
Monitor the general hygiene and adverse chemical and microbiological agents in cereals and other feedstuff.

Background
Cereal grain are commonly infested by mycotoxigenic moulds. Furthermore, humidly stored cereal feedstuff and roughage are also matrixes for development of mould and mycotoxins. Mycotoxins in feed for livestock may cause adverse effects on health and welfare. Salmonella is a bacterium which may occur primarily in imported feed ingredients.
